For nearly thirty years, the YZR500 garnered top spots in the Motorcycle Grand Prix. Despite extremely stiff competition at multiple events all over the world, its finishes were consistently in the top two, with nine first place finishes. One of those first place wins came in 1988, when rider Eddie Lawson won seven of the fifteen Grand Prix Championships for the Marlboro®-Yamaha team.
